Cambodian Rattan: The Sculptures of  SOPHEAP PICH The Metropolitan Museum, NYC (2013)







Artist Sopheap Pich takes inspiration from his home country – Cambodia. Select every day object in South East Asia such as chicken cage or bamboo hat to be his material for work since 2005. This piece of work you can see in The 4th Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale 2009 is made in 2007, the third year of making sculpture drifting apart from the painting medium. From the experiences, he cut rattan into four parts and knit them all together with wire by hand. The name of Delta as title is a symbolic way of  expressing how important it is the river in the city.
